My favorite movie of 2009 would have to be... drum roll please, (500) Days of Summer. I saw it in Theaters... twice. I like going to theaters, especially since. I like the story telling a lot, how it wasn't conventional. Skipping around time kept me interested, and involved in piecing together the story. It's cynicalness was bittersweet, but it seemed proper, showing us all that we could all get lost in our fantasies like Tom, and then rudely awaken to see the reality. It had humor, reality, and love down.

IMDB: link

Week Four: Magazines

My magazine proposal:

The name of the new magazine I am proposing is titled "STEAMVOGUE". It's concept is showing off the growing fashion of Steampunk, as well as spotlight anything relating to the Steampunk genre. It is different from other magazines because it's concentrating on steampunk.

It's readers would be mostly teens and young adults who have an interest in Science Fiction and alternate fashion. The competition would be other SciFi magazines that also cover steampunk. Advertising would be for books of the genre, and old fashioned items, such as old soaps, antique watches, and other Victorian styled items around the house. Also art websites, and conventions.

Five articles to appear in the first issue: 1) The art of embroidery. 2) An interview with a seamstress who specializes in steampunk. 3) Tips and tricks to make an affordable steampunk outfit. 4) Weapons of steampunk. 5) Steampunk colors (How to find the right fabrics)

The cover of the first issue would have at least one model showing off basic steampunk clothing, with the title suspended by copper, in a victorian styled font. I am a person who loves witty banter, and three-dimensional relationships. The way it has lasted so long, and the fact that it was written by a female author of it's time are also qualities that I love. Jane Austen took influences from her own life and incorporated them into her books, which inspires me to write, incorporating things I have experienced.

Pride & Prejudice

See also: & Zombies!

2) The Lord of the Rings: Okay... so it's three books, but over all, these three books are very influential. Not only do they connect to my religion, I find that there are many real life truths presented in this fantasy story. It's a well written, made for all ages story about good prevailing over evil. It's concepts are original, and the character depth is also nice. It has characters who pretend to be good, but give into their greed, characters who truly think of others before them, characters who give into fear. The complexity of the story, and it's shear epicness trounces over other books.

Lord of the Rings

3) The Bible: I am constantly reading new things out of the bible. I also read things I've read before and hadn't fully understood. Although my choices in life haven't always been influenced by the bible, I can say that there are a lot of choices that have been influenced. The way I strive to live, to act, to love others. It's hard to decipher, but each time I find something I hadn't noticed before, I feel good. It's not something one just reads, it's something one absorbs.

The Holy Bible (NIV)

An honorable mention would be Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the book that pulled me out of illiteracy, literally.

Week One: Media Autobiography

The media is big in my life. The things I enjoy to do most have to do with the media. I'll medium to medium to show in depth what exactly it is I love so much about the media.

First of all, I am a bibliophile. I love to read, or rather, I love a good story, and the best way to find a good story is to read lots of books. I was nearly illiterate until I was determined one summer to read a Harry Potter book. Ever since then, I often have a book to carry with me anywhere. One ambition I have is to write my own book. I often write short prose and poetry. My favorite book is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

During my Senior Year of High School, I chose to take the Journalism class. We created issues of our school's newspaper, "The Pony Express." During the year, our teacher encouraged us to read the newspaper regularly, and look for stories to write about. I wrote all over the place, from school events, to covering the election. My favorite things I wrote in that class however, were editorials. I also did minor editing, and photography for the paper too. Although most High School students would throw out their issues, I enjoyed having a press pass and being able to participate in that form of communication.

I'm not a big magazine person. But, if I see one sitting around, I can't help but look inside it. I get magazine catalogs of clothing, such as Delia's, sent to me, but I often find myself reading my father's Reader's Digest. Whenever I'm at the grocery store in line, I often have to fight the urge to pick up those catchy colorful covers, and take in the latest gossip.

I wish I could convey to you how much I love movies. Even if they are shoddily made, or have horrible plots, I love them. I can't quite pinpoint what I love about them, but I think it goes back to books again. I love stories. I love having my mind transported to somewhere else. I love and hate what technology can do with movies today. I'm not sure when to think that the movie is concentrating on the graphics or the story. The movie industry is unique, and I love it.

I don't think I could live without Music (recordings). I'm horrible at most instruments, and love to blame that on the fact that I have small hands. I also love to sing. But I love listening to music while doing other things. In the car, walking around campus, while reading a book, playing game, or, right now, as I'm writing this blog. I like most genres of music, but I especially enjoy listening to Rock, Alternative, and Soundtracks. I'm a big fan of oldies, and movie soundtracks. I also have lots of Musical Theater soundtracks, because I'm passionate about that. I buy songs off of iTunes, and I buy CDs. I also get songs from my brother, since we often like the same music.

Radio is probably the medium I am least connected with. I rather listen to CDs in my car than a radio station because it eliminates the commercials and the listening to songs I don't enjoy. The time I listen to the radio the most is during the Christmas season. I get very festive, and love to hear the classic music playing along. I don't hate it, but I don't love it.

I enjoy watching television. I love storytelling, and television is just another form. I don't have any type of program I love in particular, but I can say for sure my favorite show is Pushing Daisies. It is my favorite because it has excellent storytelling, stories, memorable well-developed characters, it's witty dialogue, and it's created beautifully. It won quite a few Emmys. However, it got canceled, not because it didn't have enough viewers, but it simply costed too much. Therefore, it had a short, glorious life. It brought my family all together, because we enjoyed watching it together. It appealed to all of us.

Last, but not least, is the internet. I'm constantly on the internet. I often browse deviantart.com because I enjoy to look at art and writing. I read stories online, yes. I hope you get that I love stories by now. The internet is an outlet to connect with others. People who would of had no one in common now are able to have friends who like the same stuff because of the internet. It also is an excellent way to get information right away. It fits the consumerism era we are in.

I'm not quite sure about my major yet. I'm stuck between a few. The majors I'm thinking of pursuing are English(Creative Writing), Illustration/Animation, Film, or Theater. I wouldn't mind a job in marketing, but I really rather have a creative life. A novelist. A free-lance artist. A film director or actor. Ahead I see many possibilities, and right now I'm trying to figure out what would make me most happy. Some of the places I'm thinking of applying to in the future are Sonoma State, Cornish College of the Arts, CalArt, and others. Wish me luck in trying to figure it all out!
